Cutting out the Yahoo Groups banner in Gnus

One of the nice things about Gnus is that you can have it automatically remove junk from the messages you read. Such junk includes banner advertisements at the bottom of messages. One obnoxious example is the block that gets tagged on to the bottom of every message that comes from a Yahoo! Groups mailing list. I read a few such mailing lists, including the one for del.icio.us. It looks like:

Yahoo! Groups Links

    http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/

Ugh. A lot of times that's longer than the message itself.

So, for the groups that those messages come to, I edited the banner parameter (by typing G c on the group name) to be a regexp:

\(^Yahoo! Groups Links\(.\|
\)*http://docs\.yahoo\.com/info/terms/\)

And now I don't have to see the extra noise. This could be made more specific, but I think it's pretty safe.

[info]hober's old post got me started.

O, so....

would this be, um, unethical?

imagine people started to remove the GNU propaganda bundled with gnu's $free$ software.

how about not using yahoo groups if you object its own promotion and terms?

after all, you are a very ethically concerned party.

Well, it looks to me like the stuff he's removing is a usage messsage, and given that he's a long time user of Yahoo Groups, the usage message isn't relevant to him. I don't see anything unethical in removing it automatically.

The motivation here is not that I object to their promotion and terms. It's that I do not need to see them with every message.

I will also gladly remove any similar information attached to the bottom of GNU messages.

Redundant is redundant.
