Students for Free Culture Conference in Berkeley

I'll be at the Students for Free Culture conference in Berkeley this weekend, October 11-12. On the second day I'll be leading a session focused on DefectiveByDesign and Digital Restrictions Management. The idea for the day is to do something hands-on rather than just talk at people, so I'm not sure exactly what we'll do — I'm thinking possibly coordinating to produce some new audio/video/text materials about DRM, or maybe writing a statement that environmental groups who recently came out against DRM could sign on to similar to what we did with the Free Software Free Society statement against Vista, or surely there must be something we can do in response to this call for input about possible DMCA exemptions. Still brainstorming.

You should come! I didn't think I was going to be able to make it, but things worked out and Wednesday airfare specials did not disappoint. I'll be in Berkeley from Friday till Monday.

Man, I was already bummed that I was missing the conference, then doubly so when D. asked me to table, now triply so that I'm going to be missing you & others in town. When are you arriving on Friday?

I get into SFO at about noonish. Good chance I'll be napping for a bit after that seeing as how I leave BOS at 5am... BTW, how big of a hole is the Berkeley Inn exactly? :) 1.5 stars but the price was right.

It's definitely a hole, but I don't think you need to fear for your safety or anything. For future reference, the general rule of thumb when it comes to lodgings in Berkeley is to avoid any place with Berkeley, University, Golden, or Bears in the name (the one exception is the UC Berkeley Faculty Club on campus). :)

Dammit, it looks like we can't get dinner after all: Paul's at a meeting in the south Bay until late this evening, and I've got a million and a half things to do before we leave for Vegas in the morning. :/ Feel free to call if you need recommendations, though.
