William Safire's Finest Speech

There must be more like this in his collection -- the unspoken speech written for Nixon by William Safire to be delivered in the event that Armstrong and Aldrin couldn't return to Earth.

First Bill Buckley now Bill Safire. Two of the few remaining intelligent conservatives within the space of so short at time.

Meanwhile the movement they both were so identified with - the movement they both tried to defend from the criminals and kooks - continues to implode. Isn't life wonderful?

Wow an historical "what if" that you can read the actual press release for.

Noticed WikiSource has a copy since gov docs are public domain.

Nice, though I have to say I like looking at the original typed versions. Anything stopping WikiSource from hosting them?
